Souls in the Dark
The oldest of all metals. It dispels magic.
Dark silver is an ancient metal colored as a darker shade of silver. Legend says that is in fact the first metal ever placed on the Earth; it is certainly among the most mystical, for it is virtually immune to all magic. For this reason, along with its rarity, it is among the most highly prized materials for armor and weapons.
Armor made out of dark silver grants the wearer Spell Resistance 25 + the armor’s AC bonus + the armor’s DR bonus. Spells that do not allow for spell resistance function normally, but the wearer gains bonus to saves against it equal to the armor’s AC bonus + the armor’s DR bonus. Shields made out of dark silver function normally unless the wielder is struck by a spell that goes in a straight path, magical rays or magical ammunition. If the the wielder fails the Reflex save DC by an amount equal to or less than his/her shield’s AC bonus + DR bonus, is hit by a magical ray attack that surpassed his/her AC by an amount equal to or less than his/her shield’s AC bonus + DR bonus, or is hit by a magical ranged attack that surpassed his/her AC by an amount equal to or less than his/her shield’s AC bonus + DR bonus, then the attack has no effect. Nonmagical aspects, such as weapon damage are resolved normally. Armor made of dark silver have a 50% increase in spell failure chance and decrease the wearer’s effective caster level by its AC bonus + its DR bonus. Shields decrease the wearer’s effective caster level by its AC bonus + its DR bonus. Only armors and shields that are made entirely or mostly out of metal can be made of dark silver. Dark silver weapons cannot be enchanted.
Weapons made out of dark silver count as alchemical silver and magic for bypassing damage reduction. Enchantments and magical abilities that activate upon being struck when being struck by the wielder of a dark silver weapon are not activated. When a creature is struck while casting a spell by a weapon made of dark silver, the concentration check DC to maintain the spell increases by 10. Upon a scoring a critical hit, the concentration check DC instead increases by 10 times it’s critical hit multiplier. Wielding a dark silver weapon decreases the wielder’s effective caster level by 1 for a light weapon, 2 for a one-handed weapon and 4 for a two-handed weapon. Weapons of a smaller size category than the wielder are halved for each size smaller they are than the wielder. Larger weapons do not alter the decrease in caster level. Only weapons that can be made entirely or mostly out of metal can be made of dark silver. Dark silver weapons cannot be enchanted.
Dark silver nullifies virtually all magic. Any magical items made incorporating dark silver in it does not function. Any items made out of dark silver are immune to the effects of any spells or spell-like abilities or supernatural abilities unless they do not offer Spell Resistance, in which case the dark silver object gains a +20 bonus to resist its effects with an additional +5 for every inch of thickness.
